We are all well aware of the chaos around us right now, the sadness, devastation and uncertainty. It has certainly made us all question everything that we once knew and we have to try not less this be the catalyst for our own chaos. For many of us we know have our school age children at home with us. For me this means I have my 2 year old and 8 year old at home and am doing schoolwork with her. Plus with the current uncertainty many of us are questioning how we are going to keep our businesses up and running and so are working with what we can to try and save our passion projects. Stress levels are on the rise and all I feel I can do besides staying home and staying safe is to raise my vibration and stay calm within the chaos. This will also create a sense of strength for my children who are also feeling the chaos of the world on every level. I wanted to share my thoughts on the imprtance of a Daily or Morning Routine with you.
So with the kids at home and having to stay at home and everything else we are doing, lets talk about Daily Routine. I think having a Daily Practice is one bit of consistency that we can create within our lives and that will bring us some calm. What can we do to feel good?
So some ideas we can do to implement a Daily Routine:
Can we start the day with 3 minutes of gratitude. A few minutes upon waking where we either just list and think about the things we are most grateful for? We can just think about it or if you are into using a journal or in your daily diary that maybe used to be full of appointments and reminders, you can just write them down and have that moment to really connect with those things, feel into them and feel the good vibe in them so you can take that feeling into the day.
Meditation. There are so many platforms and channels to use to start meditation if you have not yet started. I would recommend going on YouTube and searching Gabrielle Bernstein, she has some amazing short meditations. Basically even if you are not into meditation besides trying it, even if you can spend 5 minutes just to calm your nervous system and use your breath, calm your breathing and deeply breathe it is a huge way to calm the farm and the internal dialogue of negativity and stress.
Exercise. Can you spend 30 minutes doing yoga or Pilates, if you can’t get out jump onto YouTube and do a video. I can recommend Yoga with Adrienne or Blogilates. Videos for all levels and it is just doing something that helps your mind and body to move and keep active
Read. Just 10 pages of a book that inspires you for the day, that will set you up to think and feel good, would be beneficial.
Time. Make a cup of herbal tea and take the time while you are drinking it to just be quiet, put the news and your phone down and just check in with yourself.
What else can you do as part of a Daily routine that at this point in the world that can lift us up and keep us calm? Share and let us know your thoughts. Lets keep ourselves well in this time and support each other.
Much love to a world of uncertainty. Stay well and stay safe.
Spring Clean for the Soul. It dawned on me that as it approached Spring it is really the time of rebirth and renewal. A great time to start implementing good, healthy changes to self-care but to do so we need to make some room for these changes. I think it is quite symbolic to address where we are at and take new steps at Spring, as the change of Season brings newness and revival, there is a certain affirmation of commitment to making change at Spring. I hope these 5 daily steps help you to Spring clean your soul.
Clean up your priorities:
It’s time to clean up that To Do List. Is that list of priorities and commitments and activities on-going with countless things we have over committed to and agreed to and just do. Over committed in every which way leaving little space for the things that really matter and leave us under committed to ourselves! Sit and write a list of all the things that you do within your day, week and month. What and to whom are you giving your emotional & physical time and energy to and look at what really matters. Where are you giving your energy to and where can you take your power back. On your list look at what fuels you, what inspires you, what makes you happy, what gives you joy and satisfaction, what actions connect and nurture you and also look at who or what actions on that list drains you, creates heaviness and clutters you and look at your level of reluctance towards some activities and see how you can clean up your priority list. Use the list to identify what has significant importance and what is not supporting your priorities. Re-evaluate your priorities such as spending time with family or friends, looking after your health, eating well etc. Try restructure in order of what has the highest priority and look at the things that have the least – can you let them go to create more space in your life and maybe make room for something you really want to do or allocate more time with your family or for yourself. Is there anything on that list that is just for you, a special something that you do? In cleaning up your priorities look at what value in time and activities you give to yourself and make yourself a priority too. After all nothing can flow from a cup that is empty. Re-establishing your priorities can help you focus on what is truly important to you.
Listening to your needs
You might have gone and looked at your priorities list and realised that you hadn’t left much space for yourself so focus on what it is that you need? Ask yourself what you need every day to feel fulfilled. Find out what you like, what your strengths are, what you can no longer be a part of and what you yearn to be a part of. Once you know what you need establish what steps you can take to make sure that it happens. Remember even small tiny steps can go a long way but unless we know what we want then we will just continue the cycle of moving through our days instead of living and experiencing our days. We all have different needs and wants and once you start exploring these you might be surprised and reignite some old passions and desires and things you want to create for yourself. Take the time to reflect on your needs mentally, physically and emotionally, no one knows what you need more than you do yourself. Maybe its time to talk to someone, forgive someone, find some support, get a journal, take some time out, learn to be still, forgive, practice self-care, do something you love. Whatever it is find out and listen, listen to what you feel and listen to your gut, they are you guides to what you truly want and need.
Start a new practice
Is there something that you have always wanted to do but never gotten around to doing. Well Spring is the time of rebirth and seems fitting to start a new practice. Start a new practice today that enriches you, that inspires you, that will add value to your life. Maybe it could be starting to write in a journal to really connect with how you feel, reading a book that inspires you, starting an exercise program of some sort, going for a daily walk, practicing your breathing, eating a healthier balanced diet, starting a meditation practice (I have just started mine and 3 weeks in it is going amazing), practice daily gratitude, creating a nourishing ritual for yourself or even just packing a healthy lunch for yourself for work every day. Whatever it is just try something new and commit to it daily and you never know it could work, could stick, you could love it and just maybe whatever practice you choose might become the catalyst for a multitude of good changes.
Clean up your gratitude
It is not that we aren’t truly grateful for all that we have, its just that we forget how significant all that we have really is. Sometimes we get caught up in the story of what we don’t have or what is lacking from our lives the we forget the story of what we do have, however big or small and how blessed beyond our dreams we really are. Sit and make a list of everything you are grateful for. What in your life makes your heart burst, what inspires you, makes you laugh, what or who helps you to feel supported? Maybe it is time to let someone know how grateful you are to have them in your life? Whether it is that someone who is your rock, your best friend who you couldn’t imagine not speaking to every day, your family, your children, that you have a roof over your head and a warm bed to lay in and a clean bill of health. So much we take for granted. So today take a moment to truly give thanks and practice each and every day.
“Acknowledging the good that you already have in your life is the foundation for all abundance.” Eckhart Tolle
Clean up your internal house
Cleaning up on the inside can include anything from cleaning up your diet to cleaning up your behaviors and your thoughts. Time to clean out that winter stock, the fridge and the pantry need a spring detox! Time to start fresh and clean. For some that might mean a small step like introducing one new vegetable to your diet every week or adding a piece of fruit to your lunch. For others that might mean cutting out the junk all together and starting from a clean slate. Maybe swap those daily coffees for herbal tea or try a smoothie. Think about making yourself a good breakfast and trying to pack a healthy lunch for work so that your less likely to cave into unhealthy choices if you are prepared. Where you are at is all good as long as you make one step to cleaning up your diet, its all helpful!
Its also a good time to address any behaviors that aren’t really serving you, unhealthy habits that you know you shouldn’t be doing but keep putting off stopping them till next week or when something else happens or (add excuse here) but really there is no time like the present and as we move into Spring – the time of newness and rebirth it is a great time to clean up anything that really isn’t serving you. If you need help or support find it. Commit to positive changes. Its all worth a go, your body will be thankful, you will feel better and even if its one small step, its one step in the right direction.
